WE CAN DANCE,
IF WE WANT TO
OUR MISSION. OUR STORY. OUR COLLECTIVE.

MISSION STATEMENT
“To inspire and empower adult dancers to rediscover their passion for movement through a collaborative, inclusive environment that bridges the gap between professional and non-professional artistry. We are committed to providing high-quality performance opportunities, creative exploration, and a supportive community where diverse talents can grow, share, and connect through the universal language of dance".

Our Story
Momentum Dance Toronto (MDT) is primarily an adult member-based performance company, proud to be celebrating its 14th season. Our collective brings together trained and passionate professional and non-professional dancers of all backgrounds. Whether a member is here to teach, choreograph, or take the stage, MDT is a welcoming and collaborative space where we encourage artists to rediscover and further explore their passion for dance, in a wide range of disciplines. At MDT, every operating season and every performance is a true reflection of the collective contributions by all its members, fueled by our united dedication to keep dancing, no matter what life throws our way.
GUIDING PRINCIPLES
ARTISTIC EXPLORATION
Encouraging members to reconnect and explore new territory in dance, whether through teaching, choreography, or performance.
INCLUSIVITY & ACCESSIBILITY
Striving to promote an "inclusive rather than exclusive" culture, welcoming adult dancers of varied ages, dance backgrounds and busy professional lives, to a non-judgmental space.
COMMUNITY & COMARADERIE
The central goal is to develop a sense of friendship and connection among artists in the GTA, using dance as a vehicle for shared human experience.
HIGH QUALITY PRODUCTIONS
Maintaining a commitment to professional-standard productions that engage and entertain local audiences.
Our Co-Founders
Four Friends.
One Vision.

In 2009, four friends—Andrea, Heather, Sylvia, and Stephanie—identified a missing piece in their lives, and in the Toronto dance scene. The question came up: "Where does a formerly trained dancer go when you have a demanding career, but your heart still longs for the stage?"

Craving a high-level creative outlet that fit into their busy professional lives, they envisioned a collaborative and supportive space where a diverse group of dancers would come together to teach, choreograph, and perform across multiple disciplines. In 2010, Momentum Dance Toronto (MDT) was born.
MDT broke the mold by offering trained non-professional and professional dancers, teachers and choreographers a professional-caliber platform that balanced creative exploration, technique classes and mixed-program performance opportunities, with a flexible commitment model. From the very first audition it was clear the dance community was hungry for a space that prioritized the very pillars that continue to shape MDT: artistic exploration, inclusivity & accessibility, community & camaraderie, and high quality productions.
Today, MDT is a staple of the Toronto/GTA arts scene. The company is celebrated for reconnecting dancers with their passion and producing high-caliber dance works, including 13 full-scale multidisciplinary dance productions, and featured appearances ranging from music videos to the Toronto Fringe Festival, from corporate events to the 2025 World Series. More than a decade later, MDT remains a vital creative home where diverse talents thrive through collaboration and a shared love for the stage.
